 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit India’s top vaccine hubs today to review the development of corona virus vaccine and the manufacturing process. A s per the Prime Minister Office, PM will visit the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad, Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad and Serum Institute of India in Pune. As India enters a decisive phase of the fight against COVID-19, The Prime Minister’s visit to these facilities and discussions with the scientists will help him get a first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges and roadmap in India’s endeavour to vaccinate its citizens. The Supreme Court verdict on the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines to the state universities on conducting final year exams by September end is expected to be out soon. The top court had reserved its order on August 18, 2020 on whether the central commission be allowed to conduct final year exams in state universities across the country. Advocating on conducting final term exams, UGC during one of the hearings in Supreme Court had said that state universities final term exams shouldn't be cancelled as the future of students was at stake. Final Year University Exams can be postponed or delayed but cannot be cancelled. Replying to the Supreme Court, the University Grants Commission argued that the degrees cannot be granted without examinations as it was a statutory mandate. It has further stated that the universities may seek to push back the September 30 deadline but cannot decide to cancel the examination.  Answering to the many representations and the argument in regards the Disaster Management Act and authority of State Government to overrule UGC Guidelines, SG Mehta representing UGC stated that under the DM Act, the Central Government does have the supremacy to decide.
